OUR FOCUS ON ADRD
Alzheimer's Disease & Related Dementias
SDIGEC has a strong focus on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). There is an increase of individuals living with dementia, with now approximately 100,00 in San Diego County and an expected rise of 17% by 2030. Training on ADRD occurs across multiple groups and trainee levels, including graduate students in nursing and social work, medical students, residents, fellows, medical assistant students, primary care and other service providers, first responders, patients, families, and care partners. Our group is working to develop both age-friendly and dementia-friendly health care systems and communities in both San Diego and Imperial Counties. A wide variety of local resources are available, including "Dementia Friends" workshops and materials. We are working diligently to ensure providers and trainees are aware and have access to these resources.
